How Much Does a Mobility Scooter Cost?

Every mobility scooter is priced on what it is built to do. A small scooter that folds into a car boot and a large road scooter built for several miles a day are different machines, so they are not the same money. The honest answer to "how much does a mobility scooter cost?" is that it depends on where you want to use it, how far you need to go and whether it has to come apart for the car — and the current price of every scooter we stock is shown on that scooter's own page.

If you would rather talk it through than read, ring us on 0333 577 8085 and one of the team will go through it with you. There is no charge and no obligation.

What decides the price of a mobility scooter

Four things do most of the work. Once you know where you stand on each one, the range of scooters that suit you narrows a long way, and so does the price range.

Where you will be using it

A pavement scooter is built for shops, pavements and short local journeys. A road scooter is bigger, sits higher and is built for longer journeys and road use. An off-road scooter is built for rough ground, fields and tracks. The bigger and sturdier the machine, the more it costs to build.

How far you need to go in a day

Range comes from the batteries, and bigger batteries cost more. It pays to be realistic rather than optimistic here: the distance you actually travel on a normal day matters more than the longest trip you can imagine. Our mobility scooter batteries page explains how batteries are sized and replaced.

Whether it has to fold or come apart

If the scooter has to travel in a car, it either folds or lifts out in pieces. Folding scooters use lighter frames and more engineering to do that, which is why a very light folding scooter can cost as much as a far larger machine. See our folding car boot scooters, our folding mobility scooters and our lightweight mobility scooters.

Your height, weight and reach

Seat width, legroom, weight capacity and how far you can reach the tiller all rule scooters in or out. This is the part that is hard to judge from a photograph, and it is the main reason we suggest sitting on one before you decide.

Where to see current mobility scooter prices

Prices are on the website, next to each scooter. The full range is in our mobility scooters collection, and each scooter's own page carries its current price, its specification and its range. Prices change as models and stock change, so the page is always the figure to trust rather than anything written in a guide.

If you tell us roughly what you need the scooter for, we can point you at the two or three that genuinely fit instead of leaving you to work through the whole range. Call 0333 577 8085 or send us a message.

VAT relief on a mobility scooter

Mobility equipment can be bought without VAT by people who meet HMRC's conditions, and that changes what you pay. We cannot tell you from a web page whether your own circumstances qualify, so we have set out how the relief works, and what you need to declare, on our VAT exemption page. If you are unsure, ask us and we will walk you through the form.

Spreading the cost

Buying outright is not the only option. We have a mobility finance page explaining what is available and what you would need to apply, and the team can tell you what it would mean for the particular scooter you have in mind. Ask before you commit to anything — it costs nothing to find out.

Motability

Easy Living Mobility is a Motability dealer, and the team can help you with the scheme. If you are already on Motability, or think you might be eligible, our Motability Scheme page is the place to start and we are happy to talk it through.

Trying a scooter before you spend the money

A scooter is a large purchase and it is easier to judge in person. You can book a store demonstration, or simply call in — our shops are listed on find a store. Sitting on two or three scooters tells you more in ten minutes than a week of reading.

If you only need a scooter for a holiday, a few weeks or while you make your mind up, hiring is usually the cheaper answer. Our mobility scooter and wheelchair hire page covers that.

What it costs to keep a mobility scooter going

The purchase price is not the whole cost. Batteries wear out and need replacing in time, tyres and brakes need looking at, and a regular service keeps a scooter safe and reliable. Our own engineers look after servicing and repairs from our workshop, and replacement batteries are available for the scooters we sell. Ask us what servicing a particular model involves before you buy it, so there are no surprises later.

One more thing people often ask about: you do not need a driving licence for a mobility scooter, though there are rules about where each class can be used. Our guide on whether you need a driving licence for a mobility scooter explains them.

Talk to us about the cost

We would rather give you a straight answer on the phone than have you guess from a price list. Ring 0333 577 8085, send us a message, or come into any of our shops — you will find them all on find a store. Tell us what you want the scooter for and we will tell you what it is likely to cost you.

Common questions about mobility scooter costs

How much does a mobility scooter cost?

It depends on the type. Small folding scooters for the car, mid-sized pavement scooters and larger road scooters all sit at different price levels, and the current price of each one is shown on its own page in our mobility scooters collection. Call 0333 577 8085 and we will give you the figure for the scooters that suit you.

How much is a folding mobility scooter?

Folding scooters are priced on weight and on how they fold — an automatic folding scooter is a different price from one you fold by hand. Our folding car boot scooters collection shows the current price of each.

Is a mobility scooter cheaper without VAT?

If you meet HMRC's conditions for VAT relief on mobility equipment, you pay the price without VAT, which is less. Whether you qualify depends on your own circumstances — our VAT exemption page explains the conditions and the declaration, and we can help you with it.

Can I pay for a mobility scooter monthly?

Ask us. Our mobility finance page sets out what is available and what applying involves, and the team can tell you what it would look like for the scooter you are considering.

Can I hire a mobility scooter instead of buying one?

Yes. If you need one for a short period, or you want to be sure before you spend, hiring is normally the cheaper route. See mobility scooter and wheelchair hire.

What does it cost to run a mobility scooter?

Charging a scooter uses very little electricity. The real running costs are batteries, which wear out and are replaced in time, and servicing. Our workshop handles servicing and repairs, and we can tell you what a particular model needs.

Do mobility scooter prices include delivery and setting up?

Ask us when you enquire, because it varies with the scooter and where you are. We would rather tell you plainly than have you find out at the end.

Where can I see mobility scooter prices near me?

Our shops across the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire have scooters on the floor with prices on them, and the team can show you the alternatives at the same time. All of our shops are listed on find a store.
