Stairlifts
Below are the questions people ring us about most — straight stairs against curved, what to do when a lift has stopped working, buying reconditioned rather than new, and hiring a lift for a short while. If you would rather talk it through with a person, ring 0333 577 8085. Our engineering and service team is based at our Stafford service centre, and we fit stairlifts UK-wide.
Do I need a straight or a curved stairlift?
A straight stairlift runs on one rail from the bottom step to the top, with no bends or landings in the way. It is the simpler of the two to fit. A curved stairlift is for stairs that turn a corner, have a half-landing, or begin or end with a winder; its rail is shaped to your own staircase, so it takes longer to prepare, but it means a bend in the stairs is no reason to go without. If you are not sure which you have, you do not need to work it out before you call — tell us roughly what your stairs do, or let us come and measure up.
My stairlift has stopped working — can you repair it?
Yes. We repair and service stairlifts, and we work with all the leading manufacturers. When you ring, it helps to be able to tell us what the lift is doing: whether it moves at all, whether it is beeping, and where on the stairs it has stopped. Have the make and model to hand if you can — it is usually printed on the carriage, on the footplate, or under the seat. Priority same-day appointments are available when a repair cannot wait.
Can I buy a reconditioned stairlift?
Yes. A reconditioned stairlift is a previously fitted lift that has been checked over and made ready to install again. Second-hand and refurbished lifts cost less than a new one, and on a straight staircase they are often the sensible choice. What is available changes as lifts come in, so it is worth asking what we have at the moment. More about our reconditioned stairlifts.
Can I hire a stairlift instead of buying one?
Yes. We offer flexible hire on both straight and curved staircases, which suits a short-term need — someone coming home from hospital, a relative staying for a while, or a few months while you decide what to do longer term. Read more about stairlift hire.
Removing or moving a stairlift
If a lift is no longer needed we can take it out, and if you are moving house we can remove it and refit it at the other end where the new staircase allows. Ask when you ring, so we can tell you what is involved for your particular lift and your stairs.
Warranty and aftercare
Warranty packages are available, so you are covered after the fitting is finished. A stairlift is a piece of machinery that gets used several times a day, and regular servicing is what keeps it reliable — ask us what cover suits the lift you have, or the one you are thinking of buying.
