Mobility Scooter Batteries

If your mobility scooter is losing range, taking longer to charge, or struggling on a hill it has always managed, the battery is usually the reason. Easy Living Mobility has been looking after mobility equipment for over 20 years, and our service team works on all makes and models of mobility scooter — whether you bought it from us or somewhere else.

Batteries are arranged over the phone or in person rather than through the website, because the size, the terminals and the amp hour rating all have to match your scooter. Ring the team on 0333 577 8085 (Monday to Friday 9am–5pm, Saturday 9am–2pm), or call into any of our 14 shops and we will check what yours takes.

Signs your mobility scooter battery needs replacing

  • You are getting noticeably fewer miles from a full charge than you used to.
  • The gauge drops away sharply the moment you set off, or on the first slope.
  • The scooter feels slower, or hesitates on hills it used to take in its stride.
  • The charge does not hold overnight, or the charger behaves differently than it did.
  • The battery case looks swollen or cracked, or there is any sign of a leak — stop using it and ring us.

Not every one of these means a new battery. Charging habits, cold weather and the route you take all change how far a scooter will go, and our guides on what to do if your mobility scooter is draining fast and how far a mobility scooter goes on a full charge go through the simple causes first.

How to order a mobility scooter battery

Every scooter takes a particular battery, and fitting the wrong one is an expensive mistake. Rather than pick from a list, speak to the team and they will tell you exactly what your scooter needs. It helps to have these to hand when you ring:

  • The make and model of your scooter.
  • Whether it takes one battery or a pair.
  • The amp hour rating printed on the old battery, if you can read it (for example 12V 22Ah).
  • Whether the battery is a sealed lead acid type or lithium, if you know.

What a battery comes to depends on your scooter — a small folding scooter and a road scooter are not asking for the same thing. Ring 0333 577 8085 or use our contact page and we will give you a price for yours.

Fitting, testing and repairs

Our service department covers all makes and models of mobility scooter, stairlift, riser recliner and adjustable bed, and fits genuine manufacturer-approved parts only, to BHTA compliant standards. Home visits are available, fixed-price callouts include 15 minutes labour, and there is an optional collection and workshop repair service if a job is better done at the bench. Over 90% of repairs are completed on site, and you get a service certificate or repair documentation afterwards.

Our service offering is built mainly around equipment bought in our shops and visits depend on engineer availability, so the team will confirm what they can do for you when you ring. There is more about what the workshop covers on our service and repairs page.

Powered wheelchair batteries

The same applies to powered wheelchairs and powered add-ons: ring with the make and model and the team will work out what it needs. If you are weighing up a replacement chair rather than a replacement battery, our powered wheelchairs and folding mobility scooters are worth a look, and you are welcome to try them in store.

Getting the most from a new battery

  • Use the charger that came with your scooter, not a substitute.
  • Charge after you have been out, rather than running the battery flat first.
  • Take it off charge once it is full instead of leaving it on for days.
  • Keep the scooter indoors in cold weather — low temperatures reduce how far a battery will take you.

If you would rather not worry about what a repair might cost, our repair plans and insurance cover are explained on their own page.

Batteries at your local shop

We have 14 shops across the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire, with our head office and service centre in Stafford. You are welcome to bring your scooter in and have the battery looked at — Telford, Walsall, Kidderminster, Wylde Green and Northfield are among the busiest for battery enquiries, and the full list with addresses and opening hours is on our find a store page.

Mobility scooter battery questions

How long do mobility scooter batteries last?

Our own guide puts a well-maintained mobility scooter battery at between 18 and 24 months, or up to 3 years for higher-quality models. How you charge it and where you ride make a real difference either way.

Can you replace the battery on a scooter I did not buy from you?

Yes. Our service team works on all makes and models of mobility scooter, whether it came from us or from elsewhere. Ring 0333 577 8085 with the make and model.

How much is a new mobility scooter battery?

It depends on your scooter — the amp hour rating, whether it takes one battery or two, and whether it is a sealed lead acid or lithium type. Give the team a ring and they will tell you what yours needs and what it comes to.

Can someone come out to me?

Home visits are available and fixed-price callouts include 15 minutes labour. Visits are subject to engineer availability, so ring and the team will sort out what suits.

What should I have ready when I ring?

The make and model of your scooter, whether it takes one battery or a pair, and the rating printed on the old battery if you can read it. If you are not sure, bring the scooter into your nearest shop instead.
