How Much Does a Stairlift Cost?
Every staircase is different, so the cost of a stairlift is worked out for your own home. A straight flight, a curved or turning staircase, a brand-new lift or a reconditioned one — each is a different job, which is why your figure is built around your stairs rather than picked off a list.

What decides the cost of a stairlift
These are the things a specialist will want to know about, because they are the things that move the figure:
- Straight stairs or curved stairs. A straight flight is the more straightforward job. A curved or turning staircase, or one with a half-landing, needs a rail made to match its exact shape.
- The shape and length of the flight — how many steps, how many bends, and where the lift needs to start and stop.
- New or reconditioned. We supply reconditioned and second-hand stairlifts as well as new ones, fully tested and fitted, with a warranty included.
- Buying or hiring. If you only need the stairs made safe for a while rather than for good, stairlift hire is often the better answer.
- Fitting, and taking it out again. We fit stairlifts, and we remove and refit them, so none of that is left for you to arrange.
- Warranty and aftercare. We offer warranty packages for added peace of mind, and our own engineers look after servicing and repairs.
- Whether you qualify for VAT relief. Some customers do not have to pay VAT on mobility equipment — our VAT exemption page explains who qualifies.
Is a reconditioned stairlift cheaper?
It is the question a lot of people ask, and it is a fair one. A reconditioned stairlift is a used lift that has been stripped down, tested and made ready to fit again, and we supply them with a warranty included and fit them anywhere in the UK. Whether one suits your staircase is worth a proper conversation — there is more on our reconditioned stairlifts page, and then it is worth ringing to ask.
Buying or hiring — which works out better?
It comes down to how long you are likely to need it. Buying is the right answer for most people who need a stairlift for good. Hiring tends to suit someone who needs the stairs made safe for a set period instead — while recovering from an operation, during a spell of poor health, or when a relative is coming to stay. Our stairlift hire page covers that side of it, and a specialist will give you an honest steer rather than push you at the wrong thing.
Spreading the cost
If you would rather pay for something over time than in one go, it is worth raising when you speak to a specialist. Our mobility finance page explains the options we offer across our range.
Three ways to get your quote
Ring us. 0333 577 8085 reaches our team, who will take a few details and put you through to a stairlift specialist.
Call into a shop. We have 14 shops across the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Shropshire, including Wolverhampton, Wylde Green and Stafford. You are welcome to come in without an appointment and have a proper conversation about it. Every shop has its own direct number on its page — find your nearest one here.
Have someone look at your stairs. If it is easier, book a home visit and let a specialist see the staircase properly.
What else we do with stairlifts
Our stairlifts page has the rest of what we do: we work with all the leading manufacturers and provide expert stairlift supply, fitting, repairs, removal and refitting, with same-day service available when you need it most. If it is a repair or a service you are after rather than a new lift, our workshop team looks after that.
Common questions about stairlift costs
How much does a stairlift cost?
Every staircase is different, so your stairlift is quoted for your own home. Straight stairs or curved, new or reconditioned, buying or hiring all change the job. Speak to one of our stairlift specialists and get your quote — ring 0333 577 8085, call into your nearest shop, or send us your details. There is no obligation.
What decides the price of a stairlift?
Mainly your staircase: whether it is straight or curved, how long the flight is and how many bends it has. Then whether the lift is new or reconditioned, whether you are buying or hiring, and whether you qualify for VAT relief.
Are curved stairlifts dearer than straight ones?
A curved or turning staircase needs a rail made to match its exact shape, which is a bigger job than a straight flight. A specialist can tell you what yours needs once they know a little about the stairs.
Do you sell second-hand stairlifts?
Yes. Easy Living Mobility supplies reconditioned and second-hand stairlifts, fully tested and fitted, with a warranty included, and we fit them anywhere in the UK.
Do I have to pay VAT on a stairlift?
Some customers qualify for VAT relief on mobility equipment. Our VAT exemption page explains who qualifies, and it is one of the things worth mentioning when you speak to a specialist.
Is the fitting included?
We provide expert stairlift fitting, and removal and refitting as well, so you are not left to arrange any of that yourself. Ask your specialist how it sits in your own quote.
Can I get a stairlift quote without an appointment?
Yes. Ring 0333 577 8085 or call into any of our 14 shops and talk it through with the team. If you would rather someone saw your staircase first, you can book a home visit.
Do you fit stairlifts outside the West Midlands?
Yes. We fit stairlifts across the entire UK.
