Hi, Thank you for your question. Yes you are able to both remove the batteries whilst the scooter is unfolded and folded, however the latter being a little more of a tight squeeze to remove them whilst folded. Both batteries are individual so you are able to leave one in and take one out, yes. Most customers tend to leave these in and charge them together but you do have the option of doing what you have asked, yes.
